Find Your Brand Colours
Event companies, just like us at award-winning Evolve Events, spend all their time creating different looks but when thinking about your own brand it’s important to stick to one style. Having a unique and consistent brand makes you more memorable and having a set of colours helps keep your brand’s identity consistent. This guide on how to use your brand colours in Canva is here to help.
If you haven’t decided on your own colour palette start by making a mood board made up of images that inspire you and portray the overall feel that represents your brand. Different colours say different things so if you’re a creative and confident brand you might choose an orange palette whereas a calm, imaginative brand might use a range of blues. Pinterest is a great tool for creating moodboards and also to search for colours that complement each other.

How To Get Your Colour Codes
Once you have your inspiration you can extract the colours from any of the graphic or photographic images in your moodboard. There are plenty of websites to help with this such as coolors.co or imagecolorpicker.com. Canva also has its own tool that enables you to find a colour scheme that matches your favourite image.
It’s easy to get a bit carried away when choosing colours and shades but if you want to create an identity that is recognisable then limit your colour palette. We recommend choosing two main colours and up to three complimentary colours. Sites that are useful to find colour combinations include colorhunt.co and color-hex.com.
HEX codes are used by computers to recognise a colour so to find out the code of the shade you’re using upload your image in one of the websites above, click on the colour you want from the uploaded image and copy the HEX code displayed and then save your codes somewhere for reference.
We keep all our codes in our brand folder in Canva but also love Milanote for organising all our files and have created a brand board for easy access to everything we use on our website and social media.
Put Your Codes Into Canva
Once you’re inside of Canva and working with a design click on the element you want to change the colour of and then click on the colour icon on the top left. Next click on the new colour button and paste in your HEX colour code.
Brand Kit
If you have a paid for Canva Pro account you can save your brand colours in the colour palette of your account so that way you don’t have to paste in your colour codes all the time when designing new things. You can create up to 100 colour palettes with 100 colours each but remember in branding, you want to be clear and consistent so try to resist the urge to use all the colours you love.
To access your brand colours, from the homepage click on the Brand Kit tab from the side panel, click + and add in your HEX code.
To use your brand colours whilst editing simply click on the element you want to change the colour of, click on the colour tile in the toolbar and under the colour palettes your brand colours will dropdown ready to be applied to your design.
